CHSFL Players of the Week: 2013 Playoffs, Round 1

The following players earned Player of the Week honors from the CHSFL quarterfinals:

Tim Poindexter, RB, So., Cardinal Hayes – Poindexter had 340 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries in his team’s 41-20 victory against Fordham Prep. He also made a score-saving tackle on an interception, and Hayes got the ball back on a turnover two players later. As a student, he has also received first honors.

Albert Sutton, RB/LB, Sr. Mount St. Michael – In Mount’s 34-0 CHSFL quarterfinal win over Bishop Ford, Sutton accounted for 26 points, including and four touchdowns and 140 yards on 19 carries and a two-point conversion. The senior also played a solid game on defense at linebacker, helping his team shut out Bishop Ford.

Steven Bradley, LB/RB, Sr. St. Peter’s – The senior outside linebacker had four sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and six other tackles for loss in St. Peter’s quarterfinal win over Kellenberg. Bradley frequently covered Kellenberg’s best receiver and helped to contain the outside run. In a part-time role at running back, he had only two carries, but broke one of them for a 43-yard touchdown run.

Edwin Webber, QB, Cardinal Spellman – Webber ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns and added two touchdown passes in Spellman’s 39-35 defeat against Xaverian in the Class A playoffs.

John Antetomaso, WR, Kellenberg – Antetomaso played well in a losing effort, leading the Firebirds with nine catches for 114 yards and a touchdown. He also returned a kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown.

Naranda Itwaru, S, Jr., Archbishop Stepinac – The 5-10, 150-pound Itwaru helped Stepinac’s defense hold Iona’s offense to just seven first downs and one touchdown in the Crusaders’ 20-14 win on Sunday. Naranda contributed a big interception in the fourth quarter along with six tackles. He was also in on a scoring play, helping to force a momentum-changing safety for Stepinac.
