The following football players earned CHSFL Player of the Week honors for Week 3:
Kasim Thomas, QB/DB, Mount St. Michael
The senior captain had 11 rushes for 114 yards and a 74 yard touchdown run in the Mountaineers’ 26-19 win over St. John the Baptist. He also went 2-for-3 passing for 52 yards with both completions going for touchdowns — one of 16 yards and another of 36 yards. Defensively, he was in on many pass break-ups and had two solo tackles and two assists.
Dante Aiken, RB, Bishop Ford
Aiken, a 5-9, 185-pound senior, had 21 carries for 220 yards and three touchdowns (of 30, 18 and 12 yards) vs. Christ the King this past weekend, playing through a hip pointer and a bruised shoulder. Aiken now has 468 yards on the year. Dante also runs track and has been timed in under 4.55 seconds for the 40-yard dash.
Jordan Gowins, RB, St. Anthony’s
Gowins, a junior running back from Bellport, had a breakout game Saturday, rushing for 297 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries. His 96-yard run in the third quarter against Stepinac sealed the Friars’ 31-14 victory and kept St. Anthony’s undefeated in league play.
Justin Guerre, RB, St. Francis Prep
The senior captain carried the ball 22 times for 142 yards and three touchdowns in the Terriers’ 30-20 victory over Kellenberg on Saturdya. Guerre also added 95 yards on three receptions as well as a 19-yard punt return and an 11-yard kickoff return of 267 all-purpose yards.
