CARDINAL SPELLMAN RETURNS TO A CHAMPIONSHIP

By Kevin A’Hearn Disregard an earlier report of the demise of the Pilots.  Cardinal Spellman is very much alive in the A Championship hunt!  Spellman advanced to its second straight appearance in the A championship game.  Spellman lost last year in the A final to Xaverian but was able to avenge that loss with a 28-20 win over the Clippers last night. The Pilots last won the A title in 2008. Cardinal Spellman will play Moore Catholic who survived a late surge by Kennedy Catholic to secure its advancement to the A championship.  The Championship game will be played next Saturday, November 19th at the Mitchel Athletic Complex, Uniondale, LI.  Game time has not been finalized.  Tickets may be purchased for $7.00 in advance at participating schools or at the gate for $10.00.

MOORE CATHOLIC WIN SETS UP A FINAL AGAINST CARDINAL SPELLMAN

By Kevin A’Hearn Moore Catholic in its first year back at the varsity level has punched its ticket to the A championship game.  Moore defeated Kennedy Catholic to advance to the A championship, 36-23.  Moore last appeared in the AA final in 2004 after winning the A title in 2003.  Moore defeated Staten Island rival 21-16 to claim the A title in 2003.  Moore will take on Cardinal Spellman who defeated the defending A champions Xaverian. The Championship game will be played next Saturday, November 19th at the Mitchel Athletic Complex, Uniondale, LI.  Game time has not been finalized.  Tickets may be purchased for $7.00 in advance at participating schools or at the gate for $10.00.

IONA PREP MOVES ON TO AA FINAL

By Kevin A’Hearn Iona Prep advances to the AA final with a 28-0 win over Xavier.  The Gaels who last appeared in a AA final in 2002 will face the top seed Titans of Holy Trinity.  Iona won the AA title 2000 with a 17-7 win over St. Francis Prep.   The Championship game will be played next Saturday, November 19th at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, LI. The time for the game has not been finalized.  Tickets may be purchased for $7.00 in advance at participating schools or at the gate for $10.00.

HOLY TRINITY IN AA FINAL

By Kevin A’Hearn Holy Trinity continues to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding by putting itself on the door step of a AA championship.  The Titans move on to the championship game as a result of a win over St. John the Baptist, 28-7.  The top seed Titans will take on the winner of the Iona/Xavier semi final.    Holy Trinity last played for and won the Joe Lamas Memorial Trophy, in recognition of the AA Champion, in 2008.  The AA Championship game will be played next Saturday, November 19th at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, LI.  The time of the game has not yet been determined.  Tickets may be purchased for $7.00 in advance at participating schools or at the gate for $10.00.

STEPINAC WIN SETS UP AAA CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH WITH HAYES

By Kevin A’Hearn Archbishop Stepinac powered its way past Monsignor Farrell to set up a rematch of last years final with Cardinal Hayes.  Stepinac, which has stumbled at times this year, showed the grit of a two time defending champion by dispatching the second seeded Lions, 20-10 . Stepinac, the defending CHSAA state champions, will look to claim its third straight league title against Hayes, who defeated St. Anthony’s last night. The Championship game will be played next Saturday, November 19th, the site and time has not been finalized.  Tickets may be purchased for $7.00 in advance at participating schools or at the gate for $10.00.

JV Championships Matchups Set

By Kevin A’Hearn The JV Championships are set.  St. Anthony’s will travel to Stepinac next Saturday to play for the John Marchassalla Memorial Trophy, awarded to the JV League Champion.  St. Anthony’s,  the number two seed, defeated sixth seed Monsignor Farrell, 28-21.  Top seed Archbishop Stepinac advanced to the championship by defeating Chaminade, the number four seed, 30-10.  Game time is 10:00 am. Top seed Kellenberg will host third seed St. Peter’s next Saturday for the AA championship.  Game time will be at 10:00 am.  Kellenberg advanced by topping Fordham Prep 41-6.  St. Peter’s defeated Xavier 39-20 to advance.
