Monsignor Farrell (6-0) secured the AAA top seed with a 38–13 victory over Cardinal Hayes. In the AA I division, St. Joseph by the Sea (4–3) earned the top seed and will receive a first-round bye, awaiting the winner of the #4 St. Peter’s vs. #5 St. John the Baptist matchup. In AA II, Holy Cross (4–2) narrowly edged out Xaverian (4–2) for the top seed. Dates, locations, and times for the upcoming games are still to be announced. Iona (AAA) and Xaverian (AA) Earn Top Seeds for CHSFL JV Playoffs

UPDATE: AAA Matchups Corrected Iona Prep finished a perfect 5-0 in CHSFL AAA play to earn the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye. The Gaels will await the winner of the No. 4 Archbishop Stepinac (3-2) vs. No. 5 Chaminade (1-4). Second-seeded St. Anthony’s (3-2) will also have a bye and will face the winner of the No. 6 Cardinal Hayes (0-5) vs. No. 3 Monsignor Farrell (3-2) matchup. Xaverian (6-1) secured the top seed in the CHSFL JV AA division and will open the playoffs against No. 8 St. John the Baptist (3-4). Other quarterfinal matchups include No. 7 Holy Cross (3-4) at No. 2 Fordham Prep (4-1), No. 6 St. Francis Prep (3-2) at No. 3 St. Joseph by the Sea (4-1), and No. 5 Kellenberg (3-2) at No. 4 Xavier (4-1). Iona’s Crew Davis (Offense) & Matthew Plunkett (Defense) Selected State Championship Game MVP’s by Matt Diano Congratulations to the Gaels of Iona Prep on claiming their second NYCHSAA State Crown in the past four years on Saturday morning behind a 42-26 triumph in hostile territory over the Canisius Crusaders in a clash of the #1 and #7 ranked teams in the Evil Empire (per MaxPreps)… Labeling them as a “2nd half” team in our state title contest preview; for the second weekend a row (utilized a 25-0 run between the 3rd and 4th quarters enroute to a 43-22 upending of St. Anthony’s in the league finals), it was the Maroon & Gold taking control of a barn-burner during the final 24 minutes of regulation to hoist that precious hardware on Stransky Field (campus of CHS)… A tale of

IONA PREP 2024 NYSCHSAA FOOTBALL CHAMPS

The Gaels of Iona Prep had one mission when the field goal attempt went wide in the final seconds of last years CHSFL title game, win it all in 2024. That mission was fulfilled today with a 42-26 win over Canisius in the 2024 NYCHSAA Football title game. Braving the elements and a tenuous Crusaders team the Gaels pulled away in the second half to secure the second state football title in school history. Iona was led by the junior year tandem of running back Crew Davis, three rushing TD’s, and quarterback Julian Guzman, who threw for three TD’s. Iona finishes the season with an 11-2 overall record and is currently ranked #1 in New York State.
