Article by Matt Diano 1) Xavier Head Coach: Chris Stevens (Entering 21st Season at the helm) Last Season: Record: 1-8; Lost 35-21 in NYCHSFL “AA-1” Quarterfinals to league runners-up, Moore Catholic   Top Returning Players *James Franchock (Sr.; FS)—The trend-setter for the entire “D”, as an 11th grader, Franchock ended the year 4th on the team with 55 total stops, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery….He Is the glue in 2022 for a program renowned for their toughness and tenacity! *Shane Zaletofsky (Sr.; TB/CB)—Labeled as a conservation project, in 2021, Zaletofsky made a name for himself more so on the defensive side of the ball, as he logged 26 tackles and recovered a fumble from the cornerback position…He was spotlighted on “O”, but met quite found his footing, completing 1-of-12 pass attempts (10 yards) and carrying the ball just 12 times for a net loss…Contrary to 2021, look for 2022

Article by Matt Diano St. Dominic Head Coach: Gian Villante (Entering 1st Season at the helm) Last Season: Record: 2-6; No Postseason   Top Returning Players: *Jayden Marshall (Jr.; LB/RB)—Expected to see significant time on both sides of the ball, Marshall was credited with 2 stops last year on defense, but will play a much larger role this season as a junior….2022 will also bear witness him to trying his hand on offense as he is pegged to be part of a running back rotation for the Bayhawks! *Jonathan Bartolomei (Jr.; QB/CB)—2021 All-Catholic selection…The incumbent under center, the 11th grader took some lumps last year, but is better off because of the experience he accumulated as the ringleader of the offense…Totaling 377 yards and 4 TDs of production, he connected on 14-of-31 pass attempts for 170 yards (1 touchdown), while calling his only number on keepers 51 times for ground

CHSFL MOURNS THE PASSING OF FR. PHILIP K. EICHNER, S.M. PAST CHSFL PRESIDENT

The CHSFL mourns the passing of Fr. Philip K. Eichner, S.M.  Fr. Philip served as the President of the CHSFL and Chairman of the Principal’s Council for many decades until his retirement in 2018.  Under his guidance the CHSFL navigated expansion and the ever evolving quest to represent the needs and competitive interests of all its member schools.  He was a champion of football as a way to engage young men and to instill discipline rooted in the Catholic faith. Fr. Philip was ordained in 1966 and served as the President of Chaminade (1967-1992), Kellenberg (1987-2018) and served as the Provincial of the Province of Meribah (1984-1992). His guidance and leadership will be greatly missed.
